18 at Dove Mountain

I had a great time in Tucson recently, especially when I got in 18 holes at the GC of Dove Mountain, a Jack Nicklaus design and the former host of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship.  

I was there for the annual Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE) meeting. More on the meeting itself here later, and in the next issue. Right now, I want to talk about golf!

The course was a stunner. Lots of great views. I met up with superintendent Noah Gessler prior to my round, and we talked about the course, some of the challenges he deals with in that part of the country, his water budget, etc. Great guy, Noah, was happy he took the time… and you’ll definitely see and hear from him in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

The course played differently than I thought it would. I thought I’d be hitting from one small patch of grass to the next small patch of grass. But this is a resort golf course… there were some forgiving landing areas.
