Fallen Oak GC reopens after enhancements
The newly-renovated Fallen Oak GC in Saucier, Miss., reopened for play Sept. 5.
MGM Resorts International‘s Fallen Oak temporarily closed this summer for course enhancements. Tom Fazio, the original course architect, oversaw the project which involved regular infrastructure maintenance and strategic improvements.
“This is the once-in-a-lifetime site every golf course designer dreams of: rolling greens overlooking more than 4,000 stately oaks, magnolias and other hardwood trees,” Fazio says. “A developer willing to build golf just for the love of the game, no homes, no hotel, no other development around, just golf on sand. Golf as it was truly meant to be.”
Set in an oasis on the edge of the DeSoto National Forest, Fallen Oak offers traditional fine grasses, wide fairways and massive greens. The course is perennially ranked among the top courses in the country and recently ranked No. 30 on the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine.
The newly-remolded course is more player-friendly for the average- to high- handicap golfer and more strategic. The enhancement project involved the reshaping and movement of bunkers. With more than 20 bunkers removed, the remaining bunkers have been rebuilt. Of the course’s hallmark live oak trees, 15 were repositioned on the course.
“We are thrilled to unveil the newly-enhanced Fallen Oak, not only to the guests of Beau Rivage but to the golfing world,” says David Stinson, Fallen Oak’s general manager.
